For the last 6 months I have been exploring the depths of Node.js creating a server for a strategy game called The Deep Sea Hunt. The prize was rather large giving the winner a scholarship worth 300 000 NOK. We wanted eliminate cheating so we had to move all the game logic to the backend while maintaining a smooth user experience. For this we used node.js and socket.io.
This project was my first deployed node.js server and I have now become a massive fan of node. The server was fairly complex as it had to keep track of every players current game state and do all the calculations for every game and still it performed admirably under fairly heavy loads.
